Beat them all: Alved Beast

In a prolon to my story, I tried to compare a person and the beast. Separately from each other, they are completely different and alien to each other, but together they are a whole ring of a crust, which feed each other due to complex emotional connections. Put them together in a cage and soon you will not find differences between them in terms of behavior. From such a strange connection, a wild monster was born – a werewolf (I even remember a variation on the topic in the story of Daniels’s forest “Werewolf”, where the wolf turned into a person). Speaking in simple language, then in each of us a vile gray wolf, devouring other people’s grandmothers, is asleep. The main character of the 1988 Sega game “Alited Beast” somehow managed to tame his inner beast and decided to use it for good, for the sake of saving the daughter of one Greek deity (probably, then they were not frightened by a bald uncle named Kratos). An ordinary person can not oppose anything to the evil sorcerer with the army of monsters, but the person in the guise of the werewolf is quite capable of putting the villain in place and, in between, save the world from destruction. In fact, I really love similar topics in video games and, in particular, the ability to turn and modify to achieve the goal. And it is much cooler when all this happens against the backdrop of ancient Greece and the horde of zombies and demons, as in some trash of the 80s film. But is it right to consider this game a classic taking into account its indecent complex gameplay? Is it true that the game has a cool design of everything and everything? I will learn this by clamping in a fight with a werewolf of the era of arcade machines.

I love this cover on Sega Genesis. Hellish wasteland, strange orange background and monsters for every taste and color. And not in the center of the Chelmedveda (not pig), it would be difficult to point out who is the main character here. Synopsis: The Greek god Zeus revived the fallen warriors and ordered them to go through the entire underworld, so that they rescued his beloved daughter Athena from the paws of the evil wizard Lord Neffa (it would be more logical to take as a basis the patron saint of the underworld of Hades, and not a certain wizard). And to us, together with a friend who can join the salvation of Zeus’s daughter in Koope, laid a difficult task on the shoulders to go through the entire Hades and show what we are actually capable of (and prove that we were revived in vain). Do we have enough strength and time? This is another question. Gameplay: The creator of Golden Ax and Alien Storm Makoto Uchida put his hand to the game so, according to the logic of things, everything that concerns gameplay should be done just excellently, because the person attacked the creation of such samples of the Bit Em Apas could not just take and be laid out at the beginning of his journey. And yet it is impossible to close your eyes to obvious problems in mechanics. We have a fairly standard single -plane bit by us. The player is given the opportunity to move mainly left and right and, for the sake of additional points and bonuses, sometimes the top and down. You can beat with your foot and hand, as well as jump. And, of course, there is an opportunity to turn into a beast. To do this, you need to kill the White Wolf and get his soul to go to one of the three stages of circulation. Having gathered all souls, you can meet with the last at the level of the enemy, presented in the form of a super strongly boss and part -time the main villain of the whole game, who stole Athena.

This is a manual to an arcade machine.

The cover of the Japanese version on Famicon/Nes. Looks like a game from a series of games about Godzilu and her friends.

Another cover on Sega Master System, but this time https://gamblingdata.net/casinos/casino-gods/ not European, but American. They were all designed in this strange style with the background of notebooks in schools of school years and an obscure pattern. But it looks terrible and therefore cool.

And this is a European cover on a computer ZX Spectrum. Good art, gentlemen Activision.

And this is a shot from a horror movie in fact the cover of the American version of the game on the Commodore 64.

And the cherry on the cake is the very original Japanese cover on Sega Genesis along with the turnover.

There are five forms of the beast for each of the five levels and they differ not only externally, but also gameplayo. It seemed interesting to me that the level can be passed at the initial stage by collecting all the souls before they evaporate or run away white wolves. Considering that the main villain almost every ten meters appears again in front of the main character and costs some time in anticipation of the fact that he will take the form of a beast. But he will leave if you are still in the form of a person. What an honest villain, do not find? And yet he will not always wait for and, in the end, you may be lucky enough to fight him without his bestial abilities, which is equivalent to death. In fact, the shape of the beast is a mandatory upgrade and without it not to get to the next level. But the player does not mind, because to the second level it becomes clear how much a person loses to him in comparison. Enemies climb all the cracks. Someone from the air, from behind, and it happens that they just jump out of incomprehensible from your neck and begin to suck lives like vampires, and you are helplessly on the ground like a fish. There are many enemies and each needs their own tactics. And taking into account the fact that they appear on the screen every five seconds, without letting you calmly take a breath, then you will die and often. And if the whole thing does not sound so terribly on the arcade machine, taking into account the fact that you have a lot of coins in stock, then other versions of the game imitate the notorious Ghouls’ n ghosts (which came out the same year). The era of hardcore games began and here you either turn into a beast or a game. In the ports on the console restrictions on life so when you play and really as if you will cook in a boiler in Aida.

The version on Sega Genesis is closest to the original. Graphics are a bit, worsened, music also lost quality somewhere, moreover, a strange ending was cut out, which, in my opinion, was a great omission, but in general this is an exact copy of the original. It is easier to play in places, which is undoubtedly plus, given the cheating complexity of the arcade version. And a bonus – a cheat code that allows you to play for any animal form at any level.

And this is the version of the game at Sega Master System. It looks normal for the console itself, but it is impossible to play it. Slowly and clumsy, as well as damn inconvenient. I’m silent that there is not enough level and the jump button is rearranged upward.

The version on the Commodore 64, as well as all the computer versions of the game, looks terrible, although at first it does not inspire fears. Cool menus with a completely new pattern and the main topic sounds good, but everything else simply does not stand up to criticism. Although from the point of view of music is still not bad. But this is not an album of a musical group, you need to play, but not listen.

You just look at these tiny springs. I need to play with a magnifying glass to understand who I beat? The color palette is no better at all. This version is played slightly better and smoother than Master System, but still in comparison with Genesis and the original on arcade machines, this is terrible. But this version has its positive aspects and features that put it above others. For example, there are new forms of animals (as many as three: sharks, phoenix and lion), bosses and ending. For the sake of such features, you can also endure gameplay.

Zx spectrum playful, but damn ugly version of the original. I do not recommend.

The version of the game on Atari ST looks very good, but slightly dark. In addition, the character performs many shocks with a delay or even ignores the key. And the scale with lives and glasses occupies almost half of the screen. Music, however, was postponed well. This is definitely not the worst port of the game.

On PC Engine, the game was redrawn with the game and now they are multifaceted and almost all the time in motion. Frankly, it looks much worse than the original, but not quite bad. Management is even worse than on Atari ST, especially the jump.
